This month, our spotlight is on…
It’s all happening in Larnaca with the expansion of Larnaca International Airport already underway, plans for the redevelopment of Larnaca Marina and Port as well as the much anticipated PGA Golf Course to be located in the village of Tersefanou.
In addition to these major projects there will also be a much needed overhaul to the traffic management system in the town centre with pedestrian areas being created, three pedestrianised Plaza’s planned plus the addition of three multi-storey car parks.
Larnaca Going Green?
Like all booming towns and cities throughout the world, Larnaca has its own issues with an ever increasing population of cars on our roads. Larnaca Municipality have put together some schemes to encourage us to replace our four wheels with two, or even better no wheels at all!
A free bicycle lending service is to be put in place. From all town car parks you will be able to park your car and then ride off to do your business on a bicycle. New cycle routes will be put in place in the near future so watch this space.
Larnaca International Airport Expansion
The much talked about new terminal at Larnaca Airport is well and truly underway with the final completion set for 2009. However, people in the know are telling us that they are ahead of schedule!!
Cyprus is the gateway to the Eastern Mediterranean and, with the expansion of Larnaca International Airport, getting here will never have been easier making Larnaca the natural choice for holiday makers and property buyers as well as international corporations.
Larnaca Marina and Port Development
At long last the green light for the development and improvement to both Larnaca Marina and Larnaca Port is about to be given. Tenders for the redevelopment project have already been submitted and we are waiting with baited breath the final decision as to who is the successful candidate. News is expected by the end of the year and we will be sure to keep you posted.
The outline of the plan is to extend Phinikoudes to connect with the marina and the port and develop a water-front resort. The marina will increase its capacity to 1000 berths and offer first class facilities to the yachting fraternity and the port will become the main passenger terminal in Cyprus attracting cruise ships from far and wide.
PGA Golf Course Tersefanou
With the issue of the lack of water ever present in Cyprus, the final hurdle seems to have been overcome before development of the golf course can begin in the form of a new desalination plant said to be being built in the nearby village of Pervolia. The new plant will supply all necessary water for the greens of the Tersefanou Golf Resort.
